Professional Background

Throughout her life, Jo has always had an interest in teaching and government.  She has been a part of many areas of local, state & national government.

After graduating from Ripley High School, she began her work in local government with a summer job in the Jackson County Sheriff's Tax Department.  During her summers in college, she was awarded internships with the offices of a United States Senator and a United States Congressman.  After earning her Bachelor's degree, she became a staff member for the West Virginia State Legislature.

Once Jo was married and became a mother, she was a stay at home for seven years.  During that time, she completed two masters degrees and was able to share her government experiences through adjunct positions at various colleges.  She also served in an elected government position - the Jackson County Board of Education.

Jo currently works with the staff at Ravenswood Middle School as a teacher of 8th grade West Virginia History and Government.


PROFESSIONAL PROFILE – EDUCATION                                    

  • Ten semesters of successful college instruction in the social sciences.
  • Over three years of successful teaching in public elementary and secondary schools.
  • Proficient use of technology in classrooms of all ages in education, including the delivery of online course via WebCT
  • School technology coordinator for two years in Wood County.
  • Five years of service to the public school system on the Jackson County on the Board of Education.
